Randy Krummenacher, Phillip Island winner and erstwhile leader of the FIM Supersport World Championship this year, heads to next weekend’s Jerez race as the only rider who can still beat Kenan Sofuoglu to the title this year.

Kawasaki Puccetti Racing’s Krummenacher put in a strong performance last time out at Magny-Cours by climbing to fifth place for 11^th on the grid, while Sofuoglu threw away a chance of picking up the crown in France when he crashed out of the lead through an unforced error.

“I’m satisfied,” Krummenacher stated. “This fifth place means the championship is not yet decided, which is very positive. It’s too bad that we didn’t make the best tyre choice, but it’s also true that the track conditions were different to what we had been practicing with earlier in the weekend.”

The rider from Zurich travels to Spain next week with a 42-point deficit to Sofuoglu, meaning things still lie very much in favour of the Turk. Should none of the below permutations come to fruition at Jerez, Krummenacher would be able to take the title fight on to the Qatar season-closer on Sunday 30 October.

Kenan Sofuoglu will be crowned World Champion in Jerez if:

- He finishes the race between 1st and 8th, both included
- He finishes between 9th and 13th, both included, and Krummenacher does not win
- He finishes between 14th and 16th, both included, and Krummenacher finishes 3rd or lower
